The Vehicular Communications Laboratory for Safe Mobility is a research laboratory and group hosted by the Department of Engineering “Enzo Ferrari” of the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, Modena, Italy.
Our group’s research interests are in wireless networks, with emphasis on vehicular connectivity and cooperation among vehicles and road occupants. The final aim is to contribute to build a safer travelling environment for all categories of street inhabitants, that is, different vehicles types, but also pedestrians, bicycles, motorbikes and the like.
Here are some of the themes we are currently investigating or that we have explored in the recent past, along with the research approaches we have undertaken:
- Vulnerable road users protection through cooperative services: simulative and experimental frameworks.
- Machine learning to improve the delivery effectiveness of awareness messages;
- Analytical models for the resource allocation algorithms in the New Radio – Vehicle to Everything (NR–V2X) standard;
- Analysis of multimodal datasets recorded by autonomous vehicles for the generation of collective perception messages or high definition map feature extraction and for the evaluation of the communication channel;
- Development of analytical models to describe connected vehicles as traffic sources;
- Analysis of novel solutions related to collective perception services for connected vehicles.
